John Carson, Jr., a senior at Pineville High School, has received and accepted an appointment to United States Military Academy at West Point to begin July2, 2012. In his four years at Pineville High School, Carson has been an outstanding student, an academic letter winner and active member of the JROTC program. John will graduate in the top 5% of his class, holding the rank of C/LTC Battalion Commander as a JROTC member and Drill Team Commander. John is a three year member of the National Honor Society, a first-chair violinist in the PHS orchestra, former Vice President of the PHS Key Club and active community volunteer, having completed over 162 hours of community service with organizations like Life Share Blood Center, the Alexandria Zoo, the Salvation Army and the Special Olympics.
Making this appointment particularly noteworthy is that, with his appointment, John will join his brother, Will, who has already been at West Point for 2 years. Admission to the elite Army academy is extremely competitive, and for two brothers to receive offers is remarkable. John has been nominated for this appointment by Congressman Rodney Alexander and Senators Mary Landrieu and David Vitter.
Best of luck to both John and Will as they represent the Carson family and our Cenla community through continued academic achievement and in their service to our country.
